The line was ranked #2 beating out four other small ship lines. Windstar also garnered #1 placement in the Small Ship Cruise Line Service, Itineraries, and Design categories

Cruise line rankings in the   Condé Nast Traveler   2013 Readers’ Choice Awards are based on readers’ ratings of cruise ships on the following characteristics: itineraries, cabins, varco service, food, design, activities/facilities, and shore excursions. This year,   Condé Nast Traveler   had a record-breaking 79,268 readers participate in the survey, close to double the number of survey takers in 2012.  These savvy travelers cast 1.3 million votes for more than 16,000 properties around the world.
Windstar Cruises has been on the move the last few years with fleet-wide renovations, the expansion of power yachts, and new global itineraries. These changes varco are being recognized among guests and the travel industry alike. Renamed   Windstar Yacht Club   (formerly   Foremast Club ), the new program better recognizes Windstar’s valued loyal guests.   Yacht Club   members will enjoy special benefits when they book, while they are on board, and every time they share the Windstar experience with friends and family.   Yacht Club   member costa concordia salvage benefits become effective on November 1, 2013.

The 148-passenger Wind Spirit, the last of the fleet to undergo refurbishment, was updated with new

The project, which began in December of 2011, encompassed all three sailing yachts in a stem-to-stern renovationthat enhanced public spaces, dining venues, staterooms and suites, as well as new sails.
The 148-passenger Wind Spirit, the last of the fleet to undergo refurbishment, was updated with new furnishings, upholstery, art, lighting, wall coverings, carpeting, ceiling finishes,  window treatments , and  floor coverings  during the month-long renovation. The design palette, staying true to the other two yachts, combine sand and marine colors that contrast elegantly with the warmth of wood finishes, elevating the look and feel to stylish luxury at sea. AmphorA, the fleet’s new fine-dining experience featuring international cuisine, took the place of The Restaurant. The yacht also received enhancements in The Lounge, Casino, Reception, Pool Bar, and Library.
Wind Surf, the company’s 310-passenger flagship, completed its renovation in early December. Wind Star, the sister yacht to Wind Spirit, was fully renovated in April of last year. The staterooms and suites of all three yachts were refurbished in spring of 2012.
“ With the completion of the renovation, we are truly delivering on our promise of a unique  luxury cruise  experience that feels like your own private yacht,” said Hans Birkholz, CEO of Windstar Cruises. “So far our guest feedback has been excellent; our guests are just as excited as we are to have the fleet completed.”
June Baker, a recent guest onboard Wind Surf agrees. “I sailed last year with Wind Surf¸ and, this time, you could really see the changes. Everything was so new and fresh,” she said. “We had  the best  time onboard, it was my husband’s first time with Windstar Cruises and it was just the best vacation. We are already planning our next cruise.”
To celebrate the completion of the renovation, Windstar Cruises threw  a party  onboard the Wind Surf’s passenger Flavors of the Caribbean voyage in December. The guests onboard the company’s premiere Caribbean  itinerary passenger  were passenger treated to a spectacular fireworks show in Le Marin, Martinique, provided by the Martinique Tourism Authority. In  addition , Birkholz and other Windstar executives sailed on board the newly renovated yacht, mixing and mingling with guests and collecting initial feedback.
“ We will continue to develop the best vacation experience possible on board our unique sailing yachts,” said Birkholz. “2013 is looking bright for Windstar, with most of the cruise industry focusing on bigger ships, we will continue to invest in small-ship opportunities and intimate yacht-style passenger cruising.”

Windstar Cruises announced that its owner, Xanterra Parks

Windstar Cruises announced that its owner, Xanterra Parks & Resorts ® , has reached an agreement with Seabourn, a cruise company that operates six luxury cruise ships, carnival miracle to purchase three of their ships:  Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Legend,  carnival miracle and  carnival miracle Seabourn Spirit . Under the project name  Global Windstar , the expansion will double the size of Windstar’s recently renovated, three luxury sailing yacht fleet, making the company the market carnival miracle leader in small-ship cruising with 300 or fewer passengers, with a total of 1,230 berths. The purchase on February 15, 2013, is one of several carnival miracle recent Xanterra Parks & Resorts ®  acquisitions, including VBT, an adventure travel company, and The Grand Hotel in Tusayan, AZ, adjoining the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
The delivery of the three 104 all-suite ships, which hold 208 passengers carnival miracle each, will take place over the next two years in the Mediterranean. The  Seabourn Pride  will be the first ship to enter into Windstar’s luxury fleet in April of 2014.  Following a Windstar branded renovation, which will give the ship a new name and casually elegant look, the  Pride  with set sail a month later in May 2014; voyages are expected carnival miracle to go on sale in May of this year. Windstar Cruises will take possession of  Seabourn Legend  in April 2015 and  Seabourn Spirit  in May 2015. These two yachts are scheduled to start sailing in May of 2015 following their dry-dock period.
The fleet expansion will provide Windstar Cruises access to new destinations such as Asia and South America, in addition to the fifty countries the company already sails to. Known for visiting hidden harbors and secluded coves of the world, Windstar will continue to focus on the unique destinations that large ships cannot call on.  The opportunities of  Global Windstar  are already carnival miracle evident with the recent announcement of Windstar’s return to Tahiti in May of 2014.
