After participating in the Arctic Circle Race 2008 of 100 km distance, I was obviously cut to participate in the real Arctic Circle Race (ACR) of 160 km, but I also knew that I could not be bothered or train me up to the solely on roller skis and approx. 14 days skiing in Norway. ca sud med
But as a nurse, and especially as anesthesia nurse, I am very privileged because I can work almost anywhere in the world, so why not combine work and skiing again, as I had done previously. Therefore, I applied last year, a 3 mon's temporary position in Sisimiut, the city where ACR is done, finishing with ACR 160 km away.
It was a VERY cold winter in Greenland last year, lots of snow, but the temperature was not much above -20 degrees, and despite the cold I sped off up the mountain for training ca sud med and ski club pin cup. But when I had to run ACR stood lungs suddenly. After only 13 km's ca sud med fight I could not breathe and had to give up. UL, UL.
New trial ... Then I've got to try again this year. I went back to Sisimiut few months in the winter to train and work. Great again to see all the colleagues and friends up there. BUT I raised the estimate from a Danish skivinter, up to ice and no snow. It had rained the week before I came. Quite frustrating and depressing.
I took my steps and ran with a mask that warms the air. It looks like a pig, but never mind, it is effective. Much of my training was in the dog sled or snow scooter track, as there was no running trails up outside the city. Hard but good training, except it is almost impossible to plow in.
ACR is a race over 3 days when you run around. 53km every day. The race starts as said in Sisimiut, Greenland's second ca sud med largest town of approx. 6,000 inhabitants. The 2 nights stay is in a camp where only the food tent and dry / nursing tent is heated.
The small two-man tents that runners stay in, is set up when we arrive at the camp but is not heated. In return, ca sud med we sleep in warm sleeping bags and 2 surface. Greenlanders often reindeer skins to lie on, as this is very hot.
Breakfast and dinner are we even sure, but we have brought our luggage in addition to the piste machine. Most have dry food with you is a little tired after having forced the mountains.
During the race, it is mandatory to carry a bag of 5 kg at the start and 3 kg at goal. It shall include provide food and drink for the trip, extra warm underwear, etc. and a survivel kit in case it gets blizzard.
Piste-spaghetti ca sud med The slope change every year, and since there was not much snow, was the camp only 17km away from the city and the slopes ca sud med out there twisted at a distance of no more than 3km, as often as we could wave to each other, despite the fact that we were several miles apart in the race.
Højdemeterne were also great (ca.1.440m). On Saturday we were up to Kællingehætten, Sisimiut's landmarks, the 664m altitude. Apart from the elite runners we all went with skis in hands the last 2-3 km above.
The trip Friday and Sunday are the same and usually the hardest, but this year was Friday and Saturday the toughest because of the large increases these days. Sunday slope is in fact the opposite Friday, ca sud med so it went down the very reasonable.
International ca sud med 'language code' There are runners from around the world and around 100 participants in total. All information is in English ca sud med and Greenlandic (not all Greenlanders fo
